Meet Our Program

Mountain Creek is situated on 14 acres, outside of Greenville, Sc. Our town is very small and anywhere we want to go is about 20 minutes in all directions. However, that is the vision we had for Mountain Creek Labradoodles. A quiet, sleepy town with room for us to spread out and devote lots of time and space to our puppies, whether they are here for 8 weeks or 14 weeks and graduates of our training programs!

Space is one thing we have plenty of and we use it to enjoy time with our family and puppies. Most times we set up a game of cornhole or bocce ball to "up the ante" in the fun department while hanging out with our puppies! Our puppies are also used to hearing chickens, goats, lawnmowers, ATV's, golf carts and the occasional donkey in the distance!

At Mountain Creek, we have a couple breeding dogs that live with us full time. These dogs are our family pets and are well loved. They are off leash trained, so they get supervised access to the rest of the property as well. They can hang around with us while we garden, work in the garage, and most importantly, participate in visiting our chickens, for the daily feeding and egg collecting. Most evenings include a campfire while star gazing, although whether the doodles understand what Perseus and the Big Dipper are, is questionable.

Raising happy, well socialized puppies is our top priority. We are dedicated to spending most of our time with them, which is most of our day, every day, 365 days a year. Therefore most of our breeding dogs live in Guardian homes. Doodles that live in Guardian homes are pick of the litter puppies chosen by us for our program. Then they are placed with a loving family where they will be doted on and adored.

Guardian home dogs are extra lucky because they get two caring families, us and the Guardian home. This route has worked out well for us because it allows us to avoid re-homing our dogs once they retire and switching them from their long time home to a new home. Guardian home dogs have usually been with their Guardian home since puppyhood and will retire to the same family.

We have the most wonderful Guardian families for our dogs, which we are so thankful for.  Knowing each one of our breeding dogs, whether they live here or in a Guardian home, are beloved family pets lets us know we are doing it right.

Our Guardian home dogs come to our home several times a year to visit and hang out with us, many times while their family has a trip or vacation planned. Our Guardian home dogs also come to us during breeding, and deliver and raise their puppies here at Mountain Creek.

We have a tried and true method when it comes to raising our puppies. Our goal is to provide the best possible environment for them to grow up. This starts with the puppies being delivered in our home. We have a room right off of our living room where we set up a comfy, sanitary whelping area for our expectant mom. This way we can keep a close eye as the delivery time approaches. We are hands on during the delivery and help mom deliver the puppies, cut and clean the umbilical cord, weigh each baby and assign them a ribbon color so we can keep track of their growth.

After the delivery is complete, mom and babies are moved to the nursery that is right off our bedroom so mom can have more room and take breaks as needed. It also allows us to keep everyone close by so we can keep them under supervision. We can hear them and check on them easily throughout the night.

Most importantly it keeps our puppies away from the high traffic areas of our home while they are young so they don’t encounter potentially dangerous germs. Our puppy nursery is only accessed by our immediate family, so you can rest assured that your young puppy’s health is our top priority.

Our nursery is big enough for several litters at a time to have plenty of space as well as some privacy for the moms. Our puppies are handled right from birth. Though their ears and eyes are closed for the first 2 weeks, they get to know us well by our scent and touch. We are sure to pay extra attention to their ears and paws. This comes in handy later on when their forever family wants to clean their ears or trim their nails.

Since the puppies are in our home, as soon as their ears and eyes open they are ensconced in family life and all the sights and sounds that go along with it. They will not be shy around the TV, vacuum, the doorbell or other sounds of a home, that’s for sure!

Once our puppies are older and playing like real puppies, we introduce them to our older puppy play area. We have 430 square feet of space devoted to our puppies, where no detail was overlooked, to serve as a larger inside puppy play area and a place to start them on beginner potty training.
‍
The “puppy playhouse” is insulated just like our home as well as heated and cooled. In our “puppy playhouse” we have a 10 x 10 area set up for each litter. This area has toys and things to play with. This area starts out with an area with cedar bedding to initiate the process of potty training. The puppies instinctively begin to use this area to potty, while keeping the play area clean.

Once they are 7 weeks of age we also begin outdoor potty training with a doggy door to ease the transition once the puppies are in their forever homes. Our “puppy playhouse” has a photo shoot area, which is where many of the weekly pictures will be taken. We also have a living area set up with a TV and desk area so that we can work and simply hang out with the puppies, while still allowing them to have the set up that is most conducive to their progress as a puppy.

Our “puppy playhouse” is also only accessed by our immediate family to keep it super sanitary, and reduce the puppies being exposed to germs. We also utilize our “puppy playhouse” on pick up days when we have more than one litter of puppies (5 weeks and older).
‍
This ensures that the puppies that aren’t going home yet, won’t have exposure to any germs/bacteria. This keeps them in optimal health and ready for their own pick up day! With our older puppies, we also employ our trusty, portable, puppy exercise pen to bring the puppies into the kitchen or living area of our home when we are hanging out inside, so they continue to be in the hub of the home with us.

We have some little tyke toys for them to climb on, under and around as well as tunnels for them to run through or hide in. One of the puppy’s favorite things to do is hide and jump out at the other puppies! Outdoor playtime is under supervision only and is part of our puppy socialization.

If puppies are enrolled in one of our training programs, they will move from the "puppy playhouse" to our training facility. Find out more about our training programs here: The Trained Doodle Academy
